New to Riftbound? The League of Legends TCG in one minute
Riftbound is Riot Games' trading card game set in the world of League of Legends, for two to four players. You build your deck around a Champion Legend, which sets your deck's domains (its colours), and a Chosen Champion that starts on the board and fights for you. The rest of the deck is units, spells and gear, plus a Battlefield card of your own. Resources come from a separate rune deck: you get two new runes every turn.
The aim is simple: take control of battlefields. You score a point when you conquer a battlefield and another each turn you hold it, and the first player to 8 points wins. Move into a battlefield your opponent controls and your units fight, each dealing damage equal to its Might.
What is Riftbound Legacy?
Riot's tagline for the set is "Bear the Banner. Forge Your Legacy." Legacy is built around the moment two players sit down and reveal the champion they are representing, and it pushes that further: your champion stands for the spirit of a whole region. Six regions, Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover & Zaun, Freljord and Bilgewater, carry their identity into the cards and mechanics, and Riot says the set will feel different from anything it has released before.

The new Legends in Legacy
Riot has named eight of the set's new Legends so far: Ashe, Garen, Heimerdinger, Illaoi, Karma, Lux, Tryndamere and Vladimir, with four more still to be revealed. Ashe, Tryndamere, Lux and Garen also lead the four Legacy Champion Decks, and Heimerdinger, Karma, Vladimir and Illaoi headline Proving Grounds, Second Edition (more on both below).
Riot has also teased card art inspired by League Classic, the original look of League of Legends, on some Legacy cards.

The big change: a Legend or Battlefield in every pack
Starting with Legacy, Riftbound booster packs change. One Common slot is replaced by a slot that is either a Legend or a Battlefield, at roughly a 50/50 split, so Legacy packs contain six Commons instead of seven. Legends are needed to play, but a third or fourth copy in a premium slot felt like a let-down; now they turn up reliably without taking the place of a better pull. Showcase Legends and Battlefields still appear in the Overnumber slots rather than the new slot.
Built for draft: signposts and the new Minion
Legacy is the first Riftbound set designed with drafting in mind. Expect mechanics that link champions sharing a colour, and "signpost" cards at lower rarities that point you towards the set's draft strategies. Draft suits newer players: you need no deck to take part, and you keep the cards you draft.
To support it, the Rune Kits that stores use for events are getting a new unit card, the Minion. Like runes, Minions are there for players to take and add to their draft deck if they are short of cards to reach the minimum deck size.

Clearer card text
Legacy also tidies up how cards are written, which makes the game easier to pick up. You can see two of the changes on Scaled Snapper above:
- Targets get a grey backer: the word being targeted (like gear) is highlighted, so you never have to guess what an effect hits.
- An arrow for triggered abilities: everything left of the arrow is the condition, everything to the right is what happens.
- "When I enter" replaces "When you play me".
- Tokens are "created" rather than "played", so "play" now has one clear meaning.
Every announced Legacy product
Riot has confirmed the following for Legacy. Exact contents for most of these have not been published yet, so we will update this guide as Riot shares them.
Booster packs and booster displays

Legacy boosters are 14-card packs, with the new Legend-or-Battlefield slot and six Commons. The booster display is the way to open the set in bulk, and it is the product we will be stocking: the Riftbound Legacy Booster Box (English) is listed as coming soon. Tap Notify me on the product page and you will hear from us as soon as it can be ordered.
Champion Decks
Four ready-to-play Champion Decks: Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux and Garen.
Vault Bundle and Pre-Rift kits
A Legacy Vault Bundle and Pre-Rift kits for the launch-week events at local stores. Riot has not yet shared what is inside.
Proving Grounds, Second Edition (19 February 2027)

Following Legacy, Riot is releasing an updated Proving Grounds box with four new decks led by Legacy champions Heimerdinger, Karma, Vladimir and Illaoi. Inside: four Champion decks, four oversized Battlefields, four paper playmats, four chibi score trackers and a rulebook. It contains no cards that cannot also be found in booster packs.
What is the next Riftbound set after Legacy?
Legacy follows Radiance (Set 5), which released on 23 October 2026. After Legacy comes The Reckoning (Set 7) on 30 April 2027, then a Bandle City set themed around the Yordles in the third quarter of 2027, and a ninth set in the fourth quarter.
Start playing now with Riftbound Origins
You do not have to wait until January. Origins, the debut Riftbound set with 298 cards, is in stock and the natural place to start: it introduced the champions and rules that Legacy builds on. Each Origins pack has 14 cards: seven Commons, three Uncommons, two Rare-or-better cards, a foil and a rune or token.

Protect your Riftbound cards
Riftbound cards are standard size, so standard sleeves and toploaders fit them. Sleeve your Showcase cards and Overnumbers the moment they leave the pack.
- Penny sleeves first: Ultra Pro penny sleeves (pack of 100).
- Then a toploader for the hits: Ultra Pro 3 x 4 inch toploaders keep sleeved cards flat and rigid.
- More ideas: our guide on how to protect trading cards covers sleeving, storage and display, and our accessories range has the kit.
